Success stories. Legends of the fallen. Speaking of legends, the 140th Anniversary of General Orders Number 11 is approaching this summer and the Jackson County Historical Society has reproduced its original George Caleb Bingham Martial Law lithograph and made it available for sale. Larry Wood’s article William C. Quantrill: Upton Hays Man? turns the spotlight once more to the noted rebel.

Larry Wood is a retired public schoolteacher.  His articles have appeared in publications including: America’s Civil War; Blue and Grey magazine; Kansas; Missouri Life; The Ozarks Mountaineer; Reader’s Digest; True West; and Wild West.  He is author of The Civil War on the Lower Kansas-Missouri Border and The Civil War Story of Bloody Bill Anderson, both available in the Historical Society’s Bookshop.  Wood is a member of the Western Writers of America.  He and his wife live in Joplin, Missouri.
