JCHS 2018 Annual Meeting

The Jackson County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting Thurs., Jan. 18 at 6 pm at the DeLeon Event Center (the former Stine McClure funeral home) located at 3235 Gillham Plaza Kansas City, Mo. 64109.

The purpose of the meeting will to consider the selection of new officers and new board members and recognize significant  history-related projects or individuals with awards given by the JCHS Board of Directors.

The evening will also include recognizing the retirement of Steve Noll as JCHS Executive Director and Caitlin Eckard becoming the new Executive Director.

JCHS Annual Awards

This year's awards are:

Historic Preservation
Susan Sommers and Larry Roeder for the rebuilding of the Scarritt House following a major fire

Best Book
Steve Paul – Hemingway at Eighteen: The Pivotal Year That Launched an American Legend

Public Art
Alexander Austin – Series of public murals highlighting Kansas City history, particularly the lives and accomplishments of African Americans

Lifetime Achievement
Barbara Potts – Her consistent support for the preservation and sharing of the region’s history and her long-time support and leadership for the Jackson County Historical Society
