A celebration of Bush’s 160th birthday will be held at the National Frontier Trails Museum in Independence, Mo. on Sat., Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
Local historian Ralph Monaco will portray Bush and R. Scott Smith will portray J.A. Southern, an Independence Examiner reporter who regularly interviewed Bush.
A birthday cake decorated with Bush’s poppy mallow, one of our showiest native flowers, will be served. Bush’s techniques for collecting plants will be demonstrated at the museum. His great granddaughter will discuss the Bush-Tindall family history in Independence and display many of his Bush possessions, historic photos, books and letters.
Native plant cookbooks written by local authors will be for sale.
