Housleys, Ousleys, and Owsley Annual Meeting


The Owsley Family Historical Society presents...

Housleys, Ousleys, and Owsleys will gather for their annual meeting June 2-4th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, MO. Thursday, June 2nd is early registration 3-5 p.m. and dessert social begins at7 pm. Programs include Reverend Larry Ousley, who will tell us about the significance of birth order in nuclear families and in genealogical history. Bill Gann and Gary Toms will relate the true story of what happened to Bill's Cherokee ancestors before and during their trek on the Trail of Tears--with details on an overseer on Chief Van's Georgia plantation and what happened to ministers to the Cherokee Nation who told the truth and those who didn't. Saturday afternoon some will tour the Arabia Museum at the Missouri River. In 1856, the sailing ship Arabia loaded with 200 tons of clothing, guns and dishware was headed west from Independence to provision 16 towns when it sank in the River. For years as the River changed course, the Arabia lay under a cornfield until it was discovered in 1988. Now one can see beautifully preserved artifacts from the ship's cargo at the Museum.
